This past weekend I was busy chopping up boiled chicken to feed to our new dog, Bandit. He is now about 7 months old, but still acts like a puppy. As I stood at the kitchen counter chop, chop, chopping the boiled chicken, Bandit came up to me and whined and then proceeded to bark at me. It was definitely a 'hurry up, I want it NOW!' bark. I laughed and told him that I knew he was hungry, and that I was working on it and he would get it when it was ready.
At that moment, as the words were coming out of my mouth, I realized that so many times in my life I had been just like this new dog of mine. I've stood and whined and cried to God, wanting what He was preparing for me NOW! And He reminded me that HE has said the same thing to me many times, "I know what you need. I am working to prepare it for you and you'll get it when it's ready."
God is so good to show us ourselves in the most simplest of ways, so that we can see clearly who He is, and that He is faithful to provide what we need at exactly the right time in our lives. Like a young puppy, we cry and whine for what we need, and even let out a robust bark "I WANT IT NOW!" as we pace and pant impatiently.
While all this was going on in the kitchen, our older dog, Swiffer laid on the floor quietly watching. She never moved or looked the least bit distressed. She has been with us long enough to know that I'm going to put her plate down when it's ready. I see in Swiffer, what God wants me to be.... STILL, QUIET, and PATIENT. He wants me to KNOW Him. He wants me to KNOW that He will provide what I need when it's time. He wants me to REST QUIETLY in the knowledge that He loves me and He knows what I need. He wants me to TRUST IN HIS FAITHFULNESS to fulfill His promise to provide everything I need.

Thank you for the knowledge that you go before us preparing what we need. Thank you for giving us Your goodness, mercy and grace in abundance! Please help us to KNOW You. Help us to rest quietly in Your love and faithfulness. Help us to wait patiently, knowing that You are preparing what we need and that You will give it to us at the right time according to Your Will and Purpose.
